Planning and installing a new IP-CCTV to monitor and guard two large work areas around the clock.

BAM Nuttall came to us with a problem. How could we best guard and monitor important work areas that were close to a main road, had rail over-passes and a well used public pathway nearby?

Trellisworks recommended Safestart, a comprehensive, low-cost IP-CCTV solution consisting of 360 and bullet focus Axis cameras

running from a single 4G device. This resilient component also supplied the site connectivity.

To complicate matters even more, because there were no power cables available, two remote energy sources needed to be installed. This was solved by utilising solar and wind devices which helped meet environmental commitments.

The Challenges

  • Protecting an isolated site

An isolated site requiring a comprehensive, low-cost IP-CCTV solution, resilient remote power and full, out of hours monitoring that was capable of changing its layout as it progressed.

  • Close to potential problems

How could we best guard and monitor important work areas that were close to a main road, had rail over-passes and a well used public pathway nearby?

  • Things got more complicated

To complicate matters even more, there were no power cables available on site, somehow, two remote energy sources needed to be installed.

  • One for the environment

BAM Nuttall have very strict environmental commitments. Any solution installed had to meet these standards and provide a working, resilient solution.

Rapid deployment and in-camera storage

BAM Nuttall and Trellisworks collaborated very closely to ensure the Safestart system would have managerial and organisational ownership and the solution could be adaptable and moved as and when the site changed shape.

In this case, Safestart has already paid for itself and numerous incidents have been recorded, investigated quickly and been successfully resolved by the management team.

QuickSight

IP-CCTV surveillance that exceeds security, and health and safety requirements.

QuickStart

Resilient, stable and secure internet connection for new or remote sites.

Retrieving only what matters

The Quicksight solution was installed quickly so that construction could start immediately. In-camera storage of video meant there was very low data usage. Also, instant access to any camera on site & online was provided.

Solar & wind remote power sources were installed, as was an audio alert system integrated into the network for added protection. A wireless radio link connected the cameras to the main compound and the entire network was run from a single 4G device

Over the initial weeks , numerous incidents were caught & successfully resolved by the management team.

Product technologies included Peplink and Ubiquiti network devices, as well as Axis IP-CCTV cameras.

The Trellisworks solution included passive infrared capability, time-lapse options and built in video motion detection. Also, we made available SMS and email alerts to motion and audio alerts for simulated guarding.

There was no need for live streaming or uploading to the cloud.

In this instance, a double knock protection option reduced false alarms and local camera SD card recording meant there was no recording to an on site NVR. There were links to an alarm response centre which was optional, instead of using an events SMS or list.

Our solution had an indexed video events list which was capable of playback from just before the motion event with a tap of a button. There were Solar/Wind/Battery power options available and outdoor wireless where cabling was difficult.

360 degree cameras were used which used lower power than 2 cameras but had a field of view of 4.
