Providing connectivity for a joint operation

We were asked by one of our major construction company clients to provide a connectivity solution for a large, joint UK and US Military Base where a major development project was taking place.

Last summer, as the site got going, there were 350 personnel working together in a temporary set of portable cabins. Even at this time, they were already experiencing very poor cellular telephone connectivity.

New buildings were being prepared for them but they knew they were just going to inherit the same problem once they took up residence of their new offices.

Obviously, this would continue to cause them to struggle in their normal day to day duties and it was becoming a big concern for them. If you rely on your mobile phone and there is poor or limited/no signal, then you can be very unproductive very quickly.

The Challenges

  • Poor cellular telephone connectivity

There were 350 personnel working together in a temporary set of portable cabins. They were experiencing very poor cellular telephone connectivity.

  • Inheriting the same old problem again

New buildings were being prepared, but they knew they were just going to inherit the same problem once they took up residence of their new offices.

  • Disrupting the day to day duties

Poor connectivity would continue to cause problems during normal day to day duties and miscommunication was becoming a big concern.

  • Productivity & good communication

We all rely on a mobile phone to stay in touch with one another, but when there is poor, limited or no signal, then productivity can drop very quickly.

Formulating a solution

After the initial meeting, we discovered another complication we had to overcome. Because the major development project was for two different organisations (the main contractor and a major sub-contractor), they were locked into using two different cellular phone networks.

One was with Vodafone and the other was O2. Both parties preferred cellular communication over the use of Wi-Fi phones or moving to some other form of connectivity because of cost and security issues.

Wireless Networks

Creating tailor made wireless solutions

Quickcel

Enhancing your mobile phone coverage no matter the location.

QuickStart

Resilient, stable and secure internet connection for new or remote sites.

The only OFCOM legal solution

TrellisWorks started the install in the middle of 2019 and the system has been operational since September. Now in 2020, it is fully completed and working smoothly.

Everybody involved on the site is now working to maximum efficiency and the major development project is back on schedule. The problem is well and truly solved.

35,000 feet and counting

TrellisWorks conducted a site survey and investigated a number of options. From the survey results, we designed a solution whereby we could get the best signal for both of the mobile phone networks.

After we received the go-ahead, we then set about installing the QuickCel Advanced solution which is perfect for large, multi-layered offices or cabin complexes.

We also utilised QuickCel Basic, a great solution for smaller spaces. The solutions worked together seamlessly, across the entire site of 35,000 square feet.
